Familiarize Your Pet
Let your pet sniff the device while it’s turned off, then turn it on so they can get used to the sound. Praise them and offer a treat to build a positive association before you begin.

Illuminate and Trim
Turn on the built-in LED light simply by flipping the ON switch to get a perfectly clear view. Gently hold your pet’s paw and press lightly to extend the nail. Use the clipper side of your 2-in-1 trimmer to carefully snip off just the pointed tip, ensuring you stay well away from the sensitive pink quick.

Empty and Grind
First, dispose of the clippings safely collected in the built-in catch tray. Then, switch over to the mechanical grinder to safely round out any sharp or jagged edges. Choose between the three size settings to perfectly match your dog's nail thickness and comfort level.

Will the LED really show me where the quick is — even on dark nails?
Yes. The two LEDs sit underneath the nail and shine up through it, so on light or clear nails the quick shows as a soft pink glow, and on dark nails you'll see a clear shadow line where the quick ends. Trim outside that line and you can't hit it. It works best in a normally-lit room (not bright sunlight, which washes the glow out).

My dog is terrified of clippers. Won't the motor sound make it worse?
The motor on LumePaws was tuned to run at conversation volume — about as loud as a quiet electric toothbrush. Most dogs don't react when you switch it on. For genuinely anxious pets, we recommend turning it on in another room first, letting them hear it, then giving a treat — by the third time they barely notice. Reviews from cat owners are even better; cats hate noise more than dogs and ours mostly sleep through it.

Is it actually safe? What if I still cut too far?
Three things make it hard to over-trim with LumePaws. First, the QuickGuard™ LED shows you exactly where to stop before you cut. Second, the safety guard physically limits how much nail enters the blade at a time. Third, if you'd rather skip cutting entirely, the built-in grinder lets you file the nail down a tiny bit at a time — there's no single moment where you can take off too much. Most owners use the trimmer for the bulk and the grinder to round the edge.

Will it work on my puppy / senior dog / cat / rabbit?
It's designed for dogs and cats from small breeds up to large breeds (think Chihuahua to Labrador). It also works on rabbits and other small pets with similar nail thickness. We don't recommend it for very large breeds with extra-thick nails (Great Danes, Mastiffs) — the blade will struggle. If you're unsure, message us with a photo of your pet's paw and we'll tell you straight.

How long does the battery last and how do I charge it?
A full USB-C charge (about 2 hours) gives you roughly 3–4 weeks of regular use for one pet, or about a week of trimming a multi-pet household. The cable is included. There's a small LED battery indicator on the body so you'll know before it dies. No proprietary dock, no AAA batteries — just plug into any USB-C charger you already own.
