Yes. The two LEDs sit under the nail and shine up through it, so on light or clear nails the quick glows soft pink, and on dark nails you'll see a clear shadow line where it ends. Trim outside that line and you can't hit it. Works best in a normally-lit room (bright sunlight washes the glow out).
The motor runs at conversation volume — about as loud as a quiet electric toothbrush. Most dogs don't react. For anxious pets, switch it on in another room first, give a treat, and by the third time they barely notice. Cats — who hate noise even more — mostly sleep through it.
